THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY OF THE PARENT ASTHMA MANAGEMENT SELF-EFFICACY SCALE

Objective: the aim of the the study is to ensure the validity and reliability of the parent asthma management self-efficacy scale in turkish. methods: the sample of this methodological study consists of 120 parents whose children are between the ages of 0-6 and newly diagnosed as asthma and hospitalized as well. as for the language equivalence and content validity; the expert's opinion are taken and internal consistency and construct validity of the scale are tested. results: the cronbach-alfa value of the scale was determined as 0.83 and it was determined as 0.79 for attack management and 0.76 attack prevention subscales. the results of confirmatory factor analysis indicate that research data are compatible with the scale and also, it confirms the original structure of the scale with two factors. conclusion: it is highly important for the childhood asthma management that the assessment of the asthma management self-efficiacy perceptions of the parents ,who has the primary role on that issue, might lead behavior changes. according to results of the study; the parent asthma management self-efficacy scale is a valid and reliable scale for the assessment of self-efficiacy perceptions of the parents.
