Objective: this study was planned in order to assess the burn-out level of nurses working in a university hospital and also determine the relationship between some personal, occupational factors and burn-out level. methods: this descriptive study was done with 189 nurses between october 2009 and january 2010. data was obtained by using a personal information form and maslach burn-out inventory. data was analyzed by using descriptive statistical methods, one-way anova test, t-test and spearman correlation. results:the mean score of the scale were found as “emotional exhaustion = 18.1±6.91, depersonalization = 6.36±3.06, personal success = 19.5±4.10”.it was determined that working in an internal medicine clinic, doing the job unwillingly, not satisfied with the working environment were the factors affecting emotional exhaustion; doing the job willingly was the factor affecting “personal success”, doing the job unwillingly was the factor affecting “depersonalization” statistically significant. no relationship was found between burn-out level and some personal and occupational factors (age, education, marital status, working year and type, working hours per a week). conclusion: in this research, emotional exhaustion levels of nurses were determined moderately. interventions like increasing the interest to the occupation and designing the environment to enhance the satisfaction should be taken into account for decreasing burn-out level of nurses.
