چکیده    Cam mechanisms are used to generate reciprocal motions having small strokes. various methods are used in the design of cam profiles. in this paper, using a 5 th order classical spline method, cam profiles were obtained for 6 mm stroke and 120o, 124o, 128o lifted-valve periods. velocity and acceleration diagrams of designed profiles were plotted for 3000 rpm engine speed. the effect of lifted-valve periods on the velocity and acceleration were examined and compared. the magnitude of the inertial forces in the system depends on the follower acceleration values. the minimum values of velocity and acceleration were obtained for 128o lifted-valve period. also cam shafts were manufactured by wire electro erosion discharge machining and compared surface roughness values with conventional machining method. wire electro erosion discharge machining method was seen an alternative method for the manufacture of camshafts.
