Tourism is the case or activity of traveling for various reasons. the sustainability of tourism, which has been an issue of today, conceptually means protection and development of regional, local, cultural and natural values as resources of tourism, and continuity of their attraction. in this context, buildings for accommodation and supportive units, as primary requirements of “travel”, have gained importance at the intersection point of the concept of sustainable tourism and architecture. the aim of this study is to have an urban fabric with historical and cultural characteristics renovated in accordance with the requirements of sustainable tourism. in the study, it has been decided to renovate “hükümet avenue” in burdur, which is located in historical fabric of the city with its authenticity suitable for sustainable tourism concept.the method of the study is based on on-site monitoring of buildings located on hükümet avenue, building survey, and on developing spatial functioning suggestions. the study has great importance in terms of sustainability of whole fabric in the city, particularly hükümet avenue in the urban site, and of transfer of local characteristics to the next generations. it has brought significant results and gains. first of all, the heritage in the urban site wearing down because of non-use and about to be destroyed has been saved and used by re-functioning it. secondly, requirements of sustainable tourism have been met through use of available buildings, income for local people, maintenance of social environment and cultural and spatial sustainability.
