The Usage Levels and the Views about Usage E-Cigarette of University Students

Aim: this research was carried out to determine the levels of e-cigarette is used of university students and their views on e-cigarette use. method: the research was carried out as cross sectional-descriptive. the study conducted between 23 march - 31 december 2015, no sample selection was made and the research was completed with the participation of 1241 undergraduate students. the statistical analysis of the research data was done in spss 20.0 package program in computer environment. besides the number and percentage calculations of the data, mann whitney u, kruskal wallis and chi-square nonparametric statistical analysis methods were used. results: 83.2% of the participants are female students. while regular smoking rate is 9%, 9 people (0.7%) use e-cigarettes. 82% of the participants (n = 1017) responded that all tobacco products are harmful, should not be used. the rate of e-cigarette using is also low in both genders, and there is a statistically significant difference between both sexes; hearing e cigarette before, seeing e cigarette before, using e-cigarettes, and the presence of people who use e-cigarettes their close enviroment (p <0.05). similarly, the answers given to the statement “e-cigarette makes it easier for individuals to start smoking” are differed between those who smoke and do not (p = .000). conclusions and recommendatitons: according to the results of the research, students' use of cigarette and other tobacco products and e-cigarette are low in both genders. although the usage rates were found to be low as a result of our research, e-cigarettes can always be encountered as a problem threatening public health, especially adolescent health. due to increased communication opportunities and marketing options, and easy access to products is recommended that making for composing information and awareness.
