The Attitudes of Nurses Working in a University Hospital towards Evidence-Based Nursing

Objective: this study was carried out as a descriptive study in order to determine the attitudes of nurses working in a university hospital towards evidence-based nursing. material and methods: the sample of the study consisted of 222 nurses who worked at a university hospital between january and march 2018 and agreed to participate in the study. the data were collected by using the personal information form prepared in accordance with the literature and the attitude towards evidence-based nursing questionnaire. in the evaluation of the data, frequency and percentage calculation for descriptive statistics, t test for independent distribution data and one way variance analysis, mann whitney u test and kruskal wallis test were used for data not showing normal distribution. results: it was determined that the mean age of the nurses who participated in the study was 27,46 ± 6,83, of them 81,1% were female and 51,8% were undergraduate. it was found thatof the nurses 78.4% had never read a scientific journal, 85.6% had previously attended the scientific meeting at least once, and 78.4% who attended the scientific meeting previously participated as listeners. the mean for scale score of the nurses was 60,68 ± 8,62 (25-75).a significiant relationship was found between of nurses loving their profession, attending scientific meetings with presentations, following professional publications, making researches and attitudes towards evidence based nursing (p<0,05). conclusions: it is thought that supporting nurses' participation in scientific meetings, being able to follow the results of professional research and encouraging them to conduct research will be effective in developing positive attitudes towards evidence-based nursing. it may also be suggested to plan in-service training programs that will increase the awareness of nurses about evidence-based nursing practices.
