Examination of the Files of Children who are Referred to the Child Development Unit from the Well Child Clinic in Terms of Reasons for Their Referral to the Unit, Evaluation Results and Socio-Demographic Characteristics

Objective: in this study; the files of children who were brought to the well child clinic with various complaints and referred to the child development unit were examined, and it was aimed to obtain descriptive and statistical information about the reasons for application, evaluation results and socio-demographic characteristics from the files. method: this study was planned retrospectively. the data were obtained by examining the files of the children who were referred to the child development unit between the dates of january 1, 2017 and december 31, 2019 from the social pediatrics outpatient clinic in order to obtain information about the reasons for application, evaluation results and socio-demographic characteristics. the files of 1624 children were included in the study. the files include the family interview and information form, denver gtt results and checklists that are filled for each child referred to the child development unit. the data obtained were analyzed by chi-square test. the results obtained from the analysis of the data have been expressed in frequency (f) and percent (%). results: 51.8% (n = 841) of the children whose files are examined are girls and 48.2% (n = 783) are boys. 38.9% of the children (n = 632) were referred to the child development unit due to eating problems and 15.1% (n = 245) of toilet training. when the evaluation results are examined according to the development areas; eating problems were found in 17.9% (n = 276), sleep problems in 9.9% (n = 161) and delay in expressive language development of 6.6% (n = 107). conclusion: in line with the findings obtained from the children's files, it was determined that the children were referred to the child development unit mostly due to eating problems, toilet training and sleep problems.
