an investigation of iranian intermediate efl learners’ l2 motivation and attitude in a computer-assisted language learning environment

The popularity of integrating technology in language instruction and its fundamental effect on the language learning dimensions has been widely acknowledged whereas learners’ motivation and attitude are expected to be improved in a webbased computerassisted language learning (call) environment. therefore, this paper aimed to investigate the iranian efl learners’ motivation to learn english and attitude in a call environment. the participants of this study were 120 intermediate efl learners from two private english language institutes in isfahan, iran. they were divided into two equal groups; one experimental group (eg) and one control group (cg). then, a motivation questionnaire pretest was administered out to check the participants’ motivation at the beginning of the course. as the treatment, the eg learners were taught through callbased instruction and the cg learners were taught traditionally. after the treatment, a posttest of motivation and an attitude questionnaire were administered. the outcomes indicated that the callbased instruction promoted the participants’ motivation as checked by the motivation questionnaire. moreover, as measured by a 20 item acall attitude questionnaire, it was discovered that the learners in the eg had positive attitudes toward using callbased instruction. in light of the findings, a number of conclusions are obtained and several implications are put forward.

بررسی انگیزه یادگیری زبان انگلیسی زبان آموزان ایرانی سطح متوسط EFL و نگرش آنها در محیط یادگیری زبان با کمک رایانه

محبوبیت تلفیق فناوری در آموزش زبان و تأثیر اساسی آن در روند یادگیری زبان کاملا تأیید شده است در حالی که انتظار می رود انگیزه زبان آموزان و توانایی زبان جامع آنها در یک محیط یادگیری زبان با کمک کامپیوتر (CALL) بهبود یابد. بنابراین ، این مقاله با هدف بررسی دقیق انگیزه یادگیری زبان انگلیسی یادگیرندگان EFL ایرانی و نگرش آنها در یک محیط یادگیری زبان با کمک کامپیوترانجام شد. یک صد و بیست شرکت کننده سطح متوسط EFL از دو موسسه خصوصی آموزش زبان انگلیسی در اصفهان ، ایران شرکت کردند. آنها به دو گروه مساوی تقسیم شدند. یک گروه آزمایش (EG) و یک گروه کنترل (CG). سپس پیش آزمون پرسشنامه انگیزه برای بررسی انگیزه شرکت کنندگان در ابتدای آموزش انجام شد. به عنوان درمان (آموزش)، به زبان آموزان EG از طریق آموزش مبتنی بر CALL و به زبان آموزان CG به طور سنتی آموزش داده شد. پس از آموزش، پس آزمون انگیزه و پرسشنامه نگرش اجرا شد. نتایج پرسشنامه انگیزه نشان داد که آموزش مبتنی بر CALL انگیزه زبان آموزان ایرانی EFL را به طور فزآینده ای بهبود می بخشد. علاوه بر این، نتایج پرسشنامه 20 سوالی نگرش نشان داد که دانشجویان نسبت به استفاده از آموزش های مبتنی بر CALL نگرش مثبتی دارند. با توجه به یافته ها، تعدادی نتیجه گیری به دست می آید و پیامدهای مختلفی ارائه می شود.
