تقابل علمای امامیه و شیخیه بر سر تفسیر دینیِ نجوم جدید: هبه الدین شهرستانی و زین‌العابدین‌ کرمانی

محمدکریم خان کرمانی رهبر شیخیۀ کرمان در دورۀ ناصری از مخالفان جدی نجوم جدید بود. پس از او فرزندنش زین‌العابدین خان کرمانی، رهبر این فرقه، کتابی با عنوان شمس الجاریه (1345ق) به فارسی نوشت و در آن تلاش کرد که به استدلال‌های جدیدی که برای نجوم جدید مطرح شده بود پاسخ دهد و نشان دهد که چگونه می‌توان از آیات و روایات به نفع نجوم قدیم بطلمیوسی استفاده کرد. بخش عمدۀ آن کتاب رد ادعاهای هبه الدین شهرستانی در کتاب الاسلام والهیئه (1328ق) بود. هبه الدین در آن کتاب عناصر نجوم جدید از جمله نفی افلاک صلب، حرکت زمین، سکون خورشید، و سایه و مدار زمین را با آیات و روایات اسلامی تطبیق داده بود. زین العابدین به خوبی نشان می‌دهد که تاویل‌های هبه الدین به نفع نجوم جدید تا چه میزان دل‌بخواهی و بی‌ضابطه است. هر چند همین مشکل گریبان‌گیر زین‌العابدین در تفاسیر خود به نفع نجوم قدیم نیز هست.

Shaykhī vs. Imāmī Ulama on the Religious Interpretation of Modern Astronomy in the last years of Qajar Era:Zayn alʿĀbidīn Khān Kirmānī and Hibat alDīn Shahristānī

MuḥammadKarimKhān Kirmānnī, the leader of Shaykhists, was one of the opponents of modern astronomy in 19th century in Iran. Following him, his son, Zayn alʿĀbidīnKhān Kirmānī wrote his Shams alJārīya (1926) in Persian to reject the new arguments for modern astronomy and also to show how the Islamic holy texts admit the old Ptolemaic astronomy. A major part of his book included some rejections of Hibat alDīn Shahristānī’s claims in AlIslām wa alHayʾa (1910). Hibat alDīn in that book had argued for the consistency of Islamic holy texts and some of the elements of modern astronomy such as rejection of the solid celestial spheres, motion of the Earth, immobility of the Sun, and the shadow and the orbit of the Earth. Zayn alʿĀbidīn shows very well that Hibat alDīn’s interpretations of holy texts in favor of the modern astronomy are arbitrary and unreliable, however Zayn alʿĀbidīn’s own interpretations have the same problem.
