تصویر دین و دولت ایرانی در کتاب سرگذشت حاجی‌بابای اصفهانی

کتاب انتقادی «سرگذشت حاجی‌بابای اصفهانی» را جیمز موریه نوشت و میرزا حبیب اصفهانی (بِنی) ترجمه کرد. در این کتاب مردم، گروه‌ها و جامعه مورد نقد قرار گرفته و به‌طورکلّی بخش مهمی از آن، به انتقادهای اجتماعی (به‌ویژه سه نهاد دین، دولت و خانوادۀ ایرانی) اختصاص یافته است. در این مقاله، با عنایت به اهداف استعماری انگلیس در ایران و نقش موریه در دولت انگلیس، و به شیوۀ توصیفی تحلیلی به دیدگاه او دربارۀ سه نهاد مذکور در جامعۀ ایران پرداخته شد. نتایج نشان می‌دهد که در کتاب موریه، این هر سه نهاد مهم در ایران متلاشی هستند؛ دین دستاویزی برای کسب قدرت و ثروت است. دولت و کارگزاران و عُمّالش گرفتار رشوه، ظلم و ستم، ساده‌لوحی و نادانی هستند. نهاد خانواده نیز آلوده است و همدلی و همکاری در آن وجود ندارد.

the critical book the story of haji baba isfahani was written by james morier and translated by mirza habib isfahani (beni). in this book, people, groups, and society are criticized, and in general, a significant part of it is dedicated to social criticism (especially the three institutions of religion, the state, and the iranian family). in this article, with regard to the colonial goals of britain in iran and the role of morier in the british government, his view on the three institutions mentioned in iranian society was examined in a descriptive analytical manner. the results show that in morier's book, all three of these important institutions in iran are disintegrating; religion is a pretext for gaining power and wealth. the government and its agents and workers are caught in bribery, oppression, naivety and ignorance. the institution of the family is also polluted and there is no empathy and cooperation in it.
