Abstract    background and objective: war conditions have severe psychological consequences for survivors. this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of paradoxical therapy (ptc) in reducing anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms among war victims.method: this research employed a quasi-experimental design with a single-group interrupted time series. participants included 12 individuals (8 women and 4 men) who were survivors of the iran–iraq war and exhibited clinical symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. the intervention consisted of six weekly individual therapy sessions based on the ptc protocol. assessments were conducted at three time points—pre-intervention, post-intervention, and 30-day follow-up—using the impact of event scale–revised (ies-r; 1997), beck anxiety inventory (bai; beck & epstein, 1993), beck depression inventory-ii (bdi-ii; beck et al., 1988), and therapy outcome self-report scale (tosrs; besharat, 2016). data were analyzed using repeated-measures anova and bonferroni post hoc tests.results: findings indicated statistically significant reductions in all outcome variables (p < 0.001). very large effect sizes were observed for trauma impact (η² = 0.96), anxiety (η² = 0.82), depression (η² = 0.79), and therapy outcome assessment (η² = 0.99). bonferroni post hoc tests demonstrated that improvements in all variables were maintained from post-intervention to follow-up (p < 0.001). participants’ verbal reports also indicated enhanced mood regulation, emotional regulation, and mental calmness.conclusion: paradoxical therapy, using time-scheduled symptom prescription techniques, is effective in reducing psychological symptoms associated with war-related trauma and can be considered an efficient therapeutic approach.
