Semiological Anaysis of Headscarved Figures in the Caricatures: Case of Penguin Magazine

Caricature as a production of popular culture is one of the mechanisms that creates codeforms in the social life and constructs stereotypes or consolidates constructed images. the purpose of this study is to demonstrate how the headscarved women are figured out in the caricatures and also to analyze the latent functions of these figurations through the view of barthes’ semiological concepts. methodologically, penguin as a weekly humour magazine is examined during four months and in the course of examination, it is reached that ideological stances and assumptions are embedded in the banal signs of everyday life.
