The Risk Levels of Metabolic Syndrome and Related Factors among Adults Admitted at a Village Clinic

Purpose: metabolic syndrome is a common global public health problem and it is characterized by a group of risk factors in one person. the study was conducted to determine the evaluate risk levels among adults who are being admitted at dort eylul village clinic in sivas. method: the sample of this cross sectional study consists of 300 adults above 20 years old (78 males and 222 females) who are being admitted at a village clinic between october 2008 and january 2009 and who are willing to participate in the research. the data were gathered using “personal information questionnaire” “questionnaire for assessing metabolic syndrome and adult treatment panel-iii (atp-iii). results: according to ncep-atp-iii the diagnostic criteria were determined to three criteria and more than three in sample. nearly twenty percent (17,3%) of the patients were at “high-risk group” for metabolic syndrome, 44% were at “moderate-risk group”, 38,6% were “low-risk group”. conclusion: the study reveals that the risk of metabolic syndrome among adults in sivas is moderate level. this study shows that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome is similar to that of the general population in turkey.
