Blockage in distensible tubing

Transient flow in highly deformable tubes is similar to blood flow in arteries. in this study a 1d numerical model is developed to describe pressure and flow wave propagation in coronary artery. blockage is included as an internal boundary condition and the model is calibrated based on data from a dog femoral artery. various blockage sizes are included and their impact on the pressure signals upstream the blockage is analyzed. finally a blockage index that can be used to determine the blockage severity is proposed based on only pressure measurements upstream the blockage.
