Rehabilitation of mainline urban stations as an approach to the urban development

The roles mainline urban stations play in urban development still limit and lack positive modern methods to serve passengers and to provide sufficient economic incomes and to save energy,especially'with the development of techniques and design standards which guide stations to be diverse and vital facility. this paper deals with the scientific methodology of rehabilitation as an essential tool in urban development; the aim is to provide a general policy ensures a sustainable rehabilitation of mainline urban stations which handle the passengers efficiently and achieve closed life cycle of station buildings in addition to have a positive environmental impact. the analytical approach proposed in this study is based on theoretical concepts of rehabilitation and its development dimension in dealing with mainline urban stations in late modernism. in addition the paper aims to explain the opportunities of their rehabilitation,and argue that station buildings are more than just a place where trains stop to collect and deposit passengers.
