|
The paper suggests a conceptual model for learning in design studio that enables designers to create authentic indoor and outdoor settings. the model,i.e.,the perceptual-based design model is derived from environment/behavior theories,particularly 1 the gibsonlan theory of affordance as understood by the performance prediction model and 2 the perceptual behavior of users as interpreted in d.w. meinig work. it provides an inclusive strategy to interpret the users',expected readings of their indoor and outdoor settings into a set of appropriate design considerations that accords with the cultural and soolal environmental attributes of these setting and engenders positive users' experiences. the model and its pedagogical tactics adopt a constructionist learning standpoint have been developed and implemented throughout the last 5 years on undergraduate junior and senior interior design students. the paper displays the extent to which this learning approach affects the creativity and the overall design learning process of the future designer as well as the problems that hinder the application of this method in other design studios.
