AN APPROACH TO ARRANGE AESTHETIC VALUES IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

This research outlines and arranges a group of aesthetic values in architectural design in order to increase the visual quality of the future projects. the study depends on theoretical analysis of aesthetic values and practical study to arrange the aesthetic values through designers and professional architects. the theoretical part outlines and identifies a group of aesthetic values which contain sensory, formal, expressive and technical elements. sensory elements include line, shape, mass and form, texture, color and tone, light and dark values. formal elements contain proportion, scale, unity and coherence, diversity and variety, theme, composition, balance, contrast, pattern and repetition, rhythm, symmetry and hierarchy. the practical study indicates the importance of using aesthetic values in recent architectural designs and also gives order of preference to aesthetic values into four groups in descending order. the most important aesthetic values are involved in group one which contain shape, skill of designer, craftsmanship of the builder, emotional state and the mental image, proportion, composition, mass and form, balance. group two is less important than group one and include theme such as character, color and tone, scale, diversity and variety, dynamic qualities, texture; group three contain line, contrast such as solid and void, use of materials, light and dark, unity and coherence. group four include pattern and repetition, rhythm, symmetry and hierarchy.
