Abstract    the present study investigated the role of tourists’ motivations and perceived risks in attachment to adventure sports tourism destinations. this research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive correlation in terms of nature. the statistical population included paraglider pilots who traveled to the flight sites of golestan province in the year 1400 (2021), of which 103 were selected as a sample using available sampling. data were collected using three questionnaires and analyzed by structural equation modeling. the research findings showed that the four motivations of pleasure, excitement, socialization, and escape positively and significantly affect attachment to adventurous sports destinations. also, perceived risk negatively and significantly affects tourists’ attachment to adventure sports destinations. based on the findings, operational suggestions for sports adventure tourism destinations have been presented.introductionadventure tourism has become an attractive area for sports tourists with features such as risk-taking, challenge-seeking, and thrill-seeking, offering new and pristine experiences and mixing with nature. as an adventure tourism destination that offers aerial activities such as paragliding, flight sites seek to create positive evaluations of tourists, their mental and attitudinal attachment, and favorable behavioral outcomes. tourists may have different motives for traveling. they also have preconceptions about a destination that significantly affect their travel intentions. the current study investigated the role of motivations and perceived risks in tourists’ attachment to adventure sports tourism destinations.materials and methodsthis study was correlational and applied research. the research population included paragliding pilots who had used the flying sites of golestan province in 1400. one hundred three pilots participated in the study and completed the mental attachment questionnaire of duman et al. (2018) and two researcher-made questionnaires on travel motives and perceived risks. the data were analyzed using spss 23 and smart pls software.results and discussionthe findings showed that the four motivations of pleasure, excitement, companionship, and escape positively and significantly affect the attachment to the adventure sports tourism destination. despite the existence of high risk in adventure sports, the research results show that the experience of positive and negative emotions and pleasure from these activities can improve the perceptions of sports tourists about the service provided. tourists socializing with other people on flying sites is another aspect that affects their mental attachment. this attachment can come from a positive mental image created after the interaction between tourists and hosts, an understanding of the local culture, and a feeling of affection for them. finally, flying sites allow people to get away from everyday worries, be in a natural environment away from cities, and find peace; such conditions can leave a positive mental image and cause a person to be attached.on the other hand, the effect of perceived risks on tourists’ attachment was negative and significant. it seems that the fear of upcoming dangers and the possibility of life, financial and equipment accidents, or even the possibility of the host’s promises not being fulfilled can have a negative effect on the tourist’s mental attachment to the flying sites. therefore, reducing the negative risks of activities as much as possible is important while responding to tourists’ motivations.conclusionin general, the results show that flying sites that offer adventure activities can invest in the activities by improving interactions with tourists, perpetuating recreational conditions, more exciting events, reducing negative risks, and enhancing safety indicators, which will make more and more tourists resonate.
