منابع تلمیحات شکسپیر به ایران

در آثار ویلیام شکسپیر، اعم از شعر و نمایشنامه، اشارات و تلمیحات فراوانی به چشم می خورد. دامنۀ این تلمیحات نه تنها تاریخ، فرهنگ و اساطیر غرب بلکه شرق را نیز دربرمی گیرد. جستار حاضر به بررسی تلمیحات شکسپیر به فرهنگ و تاریخ ایران می پردازد. تلمیحات او شامل ایران پیشااسلام و پسااسلام می شود. در سنجه با تلمیحات شکسپیر به «دیگران» (مثلاً ترکان، یهودیان، و مغربیان) اشارات او به ایران، پیشا و پسا اسلام، کلی، مختصر و سطحی است. جستار حاضر، از سویی، می کوشد تا نشان دهد که شکسپیر از چه طرقی با ایرانِ معاصرش (ایران عصر صفوی) آشنا شد و از دیگر سو بر آن است تا شناخت او در این باب را در زمینۀ تاریخی خود قرار دهد. اطلاعات او در باب ایران پیشااسلام برگرفته از دو منبع اصلی بود. یکی، کتاب هایی که مورخان یونانی دربارۀ تاریخ پارس نوشته بودند و ترجمه انگلیسی آنها در آن روزگار موجود بود و شکسپیر بدان ها دسترسی داشت. به علاوه، نمایشنامه های تاریخی نسبتاً متعدد با موضوع پارس بود که در آن ایام اجرا می شد. دیگری، شناخت او دربارۀ ایران پسااسلام (خاصه عصر صفوی) عمدتاً برگرفته از سفرنامه های معروف مانند سفرنامۀ آنتونی جنکینسون، سفرنامۀ ریچارد هاکلویت و سفرنامۀ برادران شرلی بود.

william shakespeare is an allusive poet. his allusions include not only western but also eastern history, culture, and mythology. the present paper deals with shakespeare’s allusions to persia and its history and culture. his allusions deal with both pre-islam and post-islam persia. in comparison to shakespeare’s references to “others” (e. g. turks, jews, and moors), his allusions to persia both pre and post-islam are general, succinct and superficial. the present paper tries to show how shakespeare came by his contemporary persia) the safavid persia on the one hand, and tries to contextualize shakespeare’s knowledge of persia, on the other hand. concerning pre-islam persia, shakespeare got his information from two main sources. one, from the books written by greek historians which an english translation was available and the performed plays that dealt with pre-islam persia at his time. other, he received his knowledge about post-islam persia (especially the safavid persia) through travel-books notably written by richard hakluyt,  anthony jenkinson and the shirley brothers.
