چکیده

Renal hydatidosis usually requires surgical treatment suchas pericystectomy, marsupialization, or nephrectomy. in theera of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic treatmentis preferred. two main challenges in laparoscopy are toavoid the spillage of contents and to minimize incision fordelivering the specimen. we herein discuss the use of ahydatid trocar cannula system (htcs) to overcome theseproblems. a 46‑year‑old male patient having a large renalhydatid cyst (18×15 cm) was operated using htcs. threestandard laparoscopic ports were placed and the htcswas placed from the fourth port (18 mm). after aspiration ofcontents, the cyst was inspected using laparoscope and allcontents were sucked. the operation time was 120 min andthe total blood loss was around 100 ml. no intraoperativespillage was noted. the patient was orally allowed onday 2 and discharged on day 3. oral albendazole therapywas continued 3 months after the operation. he remainedsymptom free and abdominal computed tomography did notreveal any recurrences during a follow‑up of 2 years. useof htcs in renal hydatidosis not only prevents the spillageof hydatid fluid, but also assists in the complete evacuationof contents and allows intracystic visualization to checkcomplete removal of scolices.
