دریانوردی و امور مرتبط با آن در اندلس، از آغاز ورود اسلام تا پایان دوره امویانِ اندلس (422-92 ق)

موقعیت جغرافیایی اندلس و اینکه از سه جهت با دریا احاطه‌ شده، باعث شد تا مسلمانان بندرها و لنگرگاه‌ های متعددی در اطراف آن بنا کنند. در سال ‌های آغازین ورود مسلمین به اندلس و در آغاز حکومت امویان، دریانوردی و ناوگان نظامی از امور مهم به شمار نمی‌ آمد، زیرا فرمانروایانِ مسلمان سرگرم استقرار حکومت و سرکوب قیام‌ های داخلی و نبردهایی در خشکی بودند. اما امویان از زمان عبدالرحمن اوسط (حک 238206 ق) و پس از حملات نورمان‌ ها به سواحل اندلس در سال 229 ق، اهتمام ویژه‌ ای به ساختِ ناوگان نظامی مبذول نمودند و در واقع آغازِ پایه‌ گذاری و توجه به دریانوردی را در اندلس از این زمان باید دانست. از این پس، امیران اموی، اهتمام بسیاری به تقویت ناوگان نظامی داشته و از نیروی دریایی استفاده‌ ی زیادی برای مقابله با نورمان‌ ها و محدودکردن نفوذ فاطمیان نمودند. این توجه به امور دریانوردی باعث شد تا در اندلس پادگان ها و استحکامات دریایی متعددی بنا گردیده و منصبِ امیرالبحر از جایگاه والایی برخوردار شود. المریه مهم ترین بندر نظامی گردید و در تعدادی از بنادر، کارخانه‌ های کشتی‌ سازی ساخته‌ شد.

From the time of Abd alRahman alAwsat (206238 AH), and after the Norman invasions of the coast of Andalusia in 229 (AH), the Umayyads paid special attention to the construction of the military fleet. In fact, the beginning of the establishment and attention to navigation in Andalusia should be considered from this time. From then on, the Umayyad emirs made great efforts to strengthen the navy and used the navy extensively to counter the Normans and limit the Fatimid influence. This attention to maritime affairs led to the construction of numerous garrisons and fortifications in Andalusia, and the position of Amir alBahr enjoyed a high status. AlMariyah became the most important military port, and shipyards were built in a number of ports.
