   Language choice of communication on social networking site [Pemilihan bahasa dalam komunikasi di laman sosial]

چکیده    This study aims to investigate the choice of language in communication by social media users. the respondents are social networking sites users which include adolescents and adults. questionnaires were distributed to 200 randomly selected respondents. however,only 182 questionnaires were returned and only 180 questionnaires had been analyzed as two of the questionnaires were incomplete. analysis was performed guided by domain theory. the study found that the malay and english language are the most dominant language used in communication on social networking sites,followed by chinese language,then by indian language,and other languages. the findings also indicate that the pattern of language choice on social networking sites is focused on malay and english language,similar to other communication purposes offline. © 2015,jurnal komunikasi malaysian journal of communication. all rights reserved.
