چکیده    Tips refer to restrictions, regulations, practices and parenting advice which are verbally communicated through generation and practise. tips are also referred to taboos, rules, practice and elders’ advice. they are regarded as a form of mouth to mouth communication and subsequently practiced. tips transmission process is normally performed by the elderly. sign meanwhile,is often defined as an emblem or symbol used in writing or visuals, but this paper operationally defined it as a symbol to predict the future. for the javanese, tips can be associated to paukon, which is good and bad times. pawukon or paukon is mostly used to calculate the best time to do various activities such as work, build a house and weddings. the exact calculation is usually made by a shaman or a knowledgeable person who is known as wongtuwo or elder. although there are differences between the tips and the delivery of information and signs, both have the same function which is as a form of communication between human and nature. the purpose of this paper is to identify some of the tips and the prediction practices used by the javanese and attempts to explain why this practice is still practiced and how nature is seen as providing guidance in one’s to social life. data for this paper is derived from the mujarrabat,a classic javanese text. findings indicated that there the javanese belief is not interlaced with islamic teachings and that there are still a number of javanese community who practices it. © 2015,jurnal komunikasi malaysian journal of communication. all rights reserved.
