   HALLYU IN MALAYSIA: A SOCIO-CULTURAL STUDY

چکیده    In confronting the challenges of globalization, most countrieshave been contemplating various positive ways in order tobe persistently competitive. in this borderless world whereinformation can be swiftly disseminated seems to have a greatinfluence in transforming the values and ways of life of the worldsocieties. this outcome is apparent in the domain of broadcastingand entertainment. in the past, american films were merelyconsidered the best, but the society today has more selections toopt as an alternative. this development has inspired south koreato commercialize their cultures as a lucrative commodity throughhallyu. south korean has focuses on language, culture, dramasand k-pop. based on the questionnaires distributed to malaysianteenagers, it is evident that hallyu is more prominent and hassuccessfully infiltrated into the life of malaysian teenagers inparticular and asian teenagers in general. the phenomenonof hallyu has been well-accepted and instantaneously gives apositive impact in promoting korean socio-culture in malaysia.malaysia should have pursued the hallyu approach in enhancingthe commercialization of malaysia truly asia by disseminatingthe malay language and culture as our national identity to southkorea as well as to other parts of the world.
