A Modified Wavelet-domain Adaptive Filtering Scheme for Stereophonic Acoustic Echo Cancellation in the Teleconferencing Application

Stereophonic acoustic echo cancellers arebeing used in high quality audio communication systemsto reduce the echoes that arise from coupling betweenthe loudspeakers and microphones. these echocancellers have problems more severe than theirmonophonic counterparts. the most important problemis the mismatch between the impulse responses ofadaptive filters and those of the acoustic paths of thereceiving section and therefore a severe divergence offilters in the event of abrupt changes of the transmissionsection acoustic paths. the main reason for suchmismatching is the two-channel nature of the systemand strong cross-correlation between these twochannels. in this paper, with inspiration from the latticepredictor structure, we present a novel approach forreduction of the interchannel cross-correlation of theinput vectors in the wavelet domain that leads to fasterreduction of the misalignment error.
