از حیرت تا مکالمه تاریخ فرهنگی درک ایرانیان از غرب: با تاکید بر «حیرت‏نامه» و «مکالمه ‏ی سیاح ایرانی با شخص هندی»

مواجهه با غرب یکی از پیچیده ترین موضوعات و مساله های تاریخ تمدن ایرانی در چند قرن اخیر بوده است. فهم منطق این مواجهه در اقشار مختلف موثر جامعه ایرانی می تواند نقشی کلیدی در فهم تجربه مدرنیته ایرانی داشته باشد. هرچند عموما بر قشر روشنفکران و در موارد محدودی به علما در این مواجهه تاکید شده است، در این مقاله تلاش شده به دو واسطه فرهنگی دیگر در این مواجهه یعنی یک ایلچی و یک روزنامه نگار دورگه ایرانی هندی تاکید شود. در این راستا به دو متن مکتوب که یکی در قالب سفرنامه است و دیگری در قالب دیالوگ یا مناظره ای خیالی میان فردی ایرانی و شخص هندی بر سر تجربه مدرنیته هندی، رجوع شده‌است.  برای اینکار با رویکردی وبری به منطق و تجربه فهم آنها از تمدن غرب پرداخته شده است. نتایج این تحقیق نشان می دهد که شرایط ذهنی، آمادگی روحی و تجربه فرهنگی از این دیگری (یعنی غرب و مدرنیته) در بستری از زمینه‌های تاریخی و جغرافیایی و تمدنی عامل مهمی در نتیجه این مواجهه ایرانیان با مدرنیته بوده‌است. علاوه بر این، شرایط زمانی سیر تاریخ فرهنگی مدرنیته و همچنین جفرافیای فرهنگی و تاریخی مدرنتیه (مدرنتیه اروپایی و مدرنیته هندی) نیز هرکدام به نوبه خود بر نتیجه این مواجهه با تمدن غربی موثر بوده است. به عبارت دیگر در فهم تاریخ مدرنیته ایرانی، لازم است مسیرهای جغرافیایی این مواجهه، کنشگران اصلی آن، و همچنین شرایط تاریخی مدرنیته مدنظر قرار بگیرند. تاریخ فرهنگی مدرنیته در ایران مستلزم درکی عمیق و مهمتر از همه درکی پیچیده از این تجربه چند بعدی و چندلایه است.

From Perplexity to Dialogue

Encounter with the Western civilization is the most complex issue in Iranian modern history. Understanding the logic of this encounter in different groups of Iranian society can play a key role in understanding the experience of modernity in Iran. Although generally studies on this encounter are limited to modern and traditional intellectuals, in this paper I have concentrated on two other cultural mediators from common people: one Ilchi or Legate of Qajar dynasty and one IndoPersian Journalist. I have tried to explain the logic of understanding and confrontation with the West through Weberian approach.   The results show that Iranian people’s mental conditions and cultural experience of the Other(the West and modernity) in the sociohistorical context of Iranian society has had a powerful influence on this encounter. Iranian experience of encounter with the West has also been affected by the cultural and historical geography of modernity (European modernity and Indian modernity). As a conclusion, in understanding the history of Iranian modernity, it is necessary to differentiate and to consider the geographical routes of this exposure, and the main actors, as well as the historical conditions of modernity. Therefore, any account of cultural History of Modernity in Iran requires a deep understanding of this multidimensional and multilayered experience.
