Abstract    introduction: the most important platform that makes human communication with the outside world possible is the family environment. this environment has dual functions; while being able to meet the cognitive and emotional needs of a person, it can also suppress these needs, hinder the psychological and social development of a person, and expose him to all kinds of psychological and mental disorders and mental disturbance.the main character of seyyadat al-qamar, abdullah, is one of the fictional characters that grew in such an inappropriate environment. the creator of this character has tried to show the role of his father's ineffective and vain upbringing style in the formation of his mind's incompatible schemas. the author’s skill in portraying this issue reveals the necessity of conducting research with a psychological approach. therefore, in this study, with such an approach and according to the two theories of parenting styles by diana baumrind and schema therapy by jeffrey young, the influence of the father's parenting style on the formation of abdullah's maladaptive schemas is investigated. these two theories were selected from among dozens of psychological theories because they share the same opinion that the first experiences of a person are the background of the quality of his future life, and this principle is in line with the novelist’s style. with numerous flashbacks to the past, the experiences of that time and especially the father's upbringing method are considered to be the cause of abdullah's mental disturbances in adulthood.methodology: this research is conducted through a descriptive-analytical method.results and discussion: abdullah's internal quotation, which is made from the first-person point of view, tells about the father's autocratic style. this autocracy is manifested with the two parameters of the low response component and the high demand component. the low level of responsiveness of the businessman suleiman, which is one of the requirements of his autocratic style and is manifested in the form of leaving the need for intimacy and love of the child unanswered as well as the need to accept and receive the respect of others, led to the formation of the schema of deprivation. abdallah has become emotional, flawed and ashamed.the high expectations of the businessman suleiman forced abdullah to turn out as he did. the father’s excessive control of the child was done in the three ways including not recognizing the child's independence and self-will, depriving him of the opportunity to satisfy his childish desires, and punishing him in case of violation of the rules and laws. he obeyed the scheme, and the internalization of other people's behavior also played a significant role in the emergence of this scheme.the emotional deprivation in abdullah's mind was due to the institutionalization of the feeling of loneliness within him, the failure to meet his need for a safe environment free from any harm and damage, and, as a result, the loss of peace and safety and the constant feeling of fear and worry, turning to other people to gain the lost love and care. the defects and shame in abdullah's behavior can also be attributed to loss of self-esteem and sense of worth, comparing oneself with others, strengthening the feeling of being unworthy, and feeling unable to receive love and have a happy life.the obedience of abdullah is schematized as the result of simultaneous suppression of emotional desires and loss of the right to express one’s desires and inner emotions. in the end, what helps to stabilize these schemas are harmful life patterns and cognitive distortions, which prevents him from getting rid of emotional deprivation, defect and shame.conclusion: based on the results of this research, the low responsiveness component of businessman suleiman, which is one of the requirements of his autocratic style manifested in the form of not fulfilling the need for love and acceptance of the child, has led to the two schemas of emotional deprivation and deficiency in abdullah. the high level of demands in his autocratic parenting style, which shows up as countless controls, has institutionalized the obedience scheme in abdullah. the consequences of these schemas in his mind are a feeling of loneliness, reduced self-esteem, and suppressed emotional tendencies and responses. what helps to stabilize these schemas are the two mechanisms of harmful life patterns and cognitive distortions.
