Abstract
|
introduction: cognitive psychologists believe that the process of cognition in the mind is based on a set of schemas that determine the way the mind works, like anetwork consisting of awareness and knowledge. these schemas are the result of ourexperiences with the outside world, and we express them in language. this isconsidered as one of the most important issues in the science of semantics. it was firstproposed by johnson. according to his theory, image schemas appear as volume, movement or power.image schemas, which are the subject of the present research, are actually one of the most important topics in cognitive linguistics. cognitive psychologists believe thatthe process of cognition in the mind is based on schemas. like a network created fromthe structures of awareness and knowledge, they determine the way the mind works.a schema refers to a context that gives meaning to an experience, a personal event, asituation or a linguistic element. mark johnson was the first person to use this term in linguistics. he believed that human body movements and their sensory connection with the outside world follow repetitive patterns called visual schemas.in semantics,a word or sentence can be examined from different viewpoints. this science claimsthat, in analyzing the meanings of words and sentences, attention should be paid to conceptualization. conceptual metaphor is also one of the important topics in the science of cognitive semantics. because of the deep relationship that this theory haswith human knowledge and his daily experiences, it has been the focus of linguists.this metaphor actually establishes a connection between objective and abstract domains. an objective domain is the origin one, and the abstract domain is thedestination one, which is expressed based on the elements in the origin domain. nizarqabbani was born on 30 april 1998, in damascus and started writing poems at theage of 16. he was mostly known for his love poems, and women were the main subject of his poems. due to the defeat and retreat of arabs, however, the poet gave up writing love poems and turned to writing political poems. this research uses johnson's theoryto investigate the image schemas in nizar qabbani's poems in the three main domainsof volume, movement and power.methodology: the research method in this article is descriptive-analytical, which examines the poems based on johnson's theory. results and discussion: schemas are the result of our experiences with the outside world. they are associated with physical experiences, and corporalization has a direct
