زیستن زیر مفهومی واحد به‌نام «ملّت» نقدی بر کتاب communities imagined (جماعت‌های تصوری) اثر بندیکت اندرسون

به‌تعبیر بسیاری از نظریه‌پردازان، جماعت های تصوری یکی از تاثیرگذارترین کتاب‌های انتهای قرن بیستم است. براساس آن‌چه از بحث اندرسون در این کتاب برمی‌آید، ملّیت‌گرایی نوعی آگاهی کاذب متاثر از سرمایه‌داری نیست، بلکه حقیقتی است که خود به‌واسطۀ یکی از جنبه‌های مهم، ولی فراموش‌شدۀ سرمایه‌داری به‌وجود آمده است. سرمایه‌داری چاپی در بستر تاریخی خود یکی از گونه‌های بنگاه‌های اقتصادی است که نه‌تنها در شکل و انتشار فرهنگ تاثیر گذاشت، بلکه خود بخشی از تولید سرمایه‌داری نیز بود. دستاورد اندرسون در این اثر آن بود که نشان داد چگونه صنعت چاپ به تولید واحدهای ملّی کمک کرد. اما نگاهی نقادانه به جماعت‌های تصوری نشان می‌دهد که تحلیل اندرسون تحلیلی کم‌تر عملیاتی و کاربردی است. او این مسئله را توضیح نمی‌دهد که ملّت چگونه از سایر انواع جامعه (که خود آن‌ها را برمی‌سازد) متمایز می‌شود. هم‌چنین، تحلیل او از سه وجه پذیرای انتقاداتی بسیار جدی است. درک او از ملّت به‌مثابۀ امری فراطبقاتی، غیراجتماعی و همه‌جایی، غیابِ اقلیت‌ها، گروه‌های حاشیه‌ای و فرودستان در تحلیل او و هم‌چنین بی‌توجهی به مسئلۀ جنسیت و نقش بازتولیدی زنان در شکل‌گیری یک ملّت باعث می‌شود تا فضایی که او از شرایط شهروندی و ملّت می‌سازد، بر سبک زندگی مردانِ طبقۀ متوسط اروپایی مبتنی باشد.

many scholars believe that “imagined communities” is one of a most influential books in late 20th. based on the anderson’s point of view, nationalism is not a false capitalist consciousness, instead it is produced by one of a fundamental aspects of capitalism. “print capitalism” in its historical context, is a type of economic corporation which is not only affected on the formation and distribution of culture, but it also was a part of capitalist production as well. his contribution was to show how print industry helped development of national units. a critical review can declare anderson’s analysis is less practical and useful. it could not explain how a nation is distinguished from other types of community which he has constructed in the book. in addition, his analysis faces three serious problems: his understanding of nation is something classless, asocial and universal; minorities, marginal and subaltern groups are absent in his analysis, and finally he is unconsidered to sexuality structures and women’s reproductive role in generating a nation. these obstacles base his construction of citizenship and nation upon white, middle class, educated european men.
