کتاب زبان، ذهن و فرهنگ: مقدمه‏ای مفید و کاربردی، اثر زولتان کووچش، به‌دلیل بیان روشن مطالب، جامعیت موضوعی و توجه ویژه به ابعاد کاربردی نظریه‏های زبان‏شناسی شناختی، هم‌چون متنی درسی در زبان‏شناسی شناختی، جایگاه برجسته‌ای در این رشته دارد. بااین‌همه، ترجمۀ فارسی این کتاب به‌سبب وجود مشکلات گوناگون و پُرشمار در آن نه‌تنها مزیت‏های آشکار این کتاب را چنان‌که باید حفظ نکرده، بلکه گاه به‌دلیل بروز پاره‏ای از اشتباهات بزرگ در آن نارسا و حتی گم‌راه‏کننده بوده است. عمدۀ مشکلات این ترجمۀ فارسی عبارت‌اند از: لغزش‏های صوری (شامل غلط‏های املایی و ضبط نادرست اسامی خاص) و اشتباهات محتوایی (شامل برگردان نادرست واژه‏های تخصصی و غیرتخصصی، اشتباهات آشکار در برگردان فارسی جملات، و برگردان‏های مبهم و گاه نامفهوم). نقد پیشِ‌رو، پس از معرفی کوتاه اصل اثر و بیان ویژگی‏های بارز آن، یکایک مشکلات ترجمۀ فارسی آن را، با ذکر نمونه‏هایی از هریک، برشمرده است تا افزون‌بر ذکر برخی از مهم‏ترین کاستی‏‏های این ترجمه و اصلاح آن‏ها، پیش‌نهادی را مبنی‌بر بازنگری کلی و فراگیر در این ترجمۀ فارسی ارائه کند.

because of its clear presentation of topics, comprehensive scope and its illustrative application of theories, language, mind and culture: a practical introduction by zoltán kövecses has secured its place as a textbook of cognitive linguistics. that is why the book has been translated into persian. however, its erroneous persian translation has not managed to preserve the original book’s merits and has sometimes misinformed or even misled the reader. most of the problems with the persian translation constitute formal defects, including conspicuous misspellings and wrong equivalents for proper nouns, and content mistakes, including wrong renderings of general and technical terms and incorrect translations that produced vague or even unintelligible sentences. after giving a broad outline of the original and its contents, the present review has enumerated the various types of the defects in its persian translation with numerous examples in order to illustrate and correct some of its critical flaws and also to put forward a proposal for the total revision of the translation.
