تاملی در ترویج علم در حیطۀ عمومی:نقد و بررسی کتاب علم، جامعه، توسعه: مقالاتی درباب ترویج علم در حیطۀ عمومی

ترویج علم در حیطۀ عمومی موضوع مهمی است که کم‌تر به آن توجه می‌شود، ولی کتاب علم، جامعه، توسعه: مقالاتی درباب ترویج علم در حیطۀ عمومی، نوشتۀ علی پایا، از دو منظر تاریخی و فلسفی به آن می‌پردازد. این مقاله با هدف معرفی اجمالی و ارزیابی کتاب مزبور نوشته شده است. کتاب با استفاده از رویکرد عقلانیت نقاد تلاش می‌کند نگاه عمومی به علم را تصحیح و هم‌چنین در چیستی و ضرورت ترویج علم کاوش کند. باوجود کارایی عقلانیت نقاد درجهت تنویر افکار عمومی نسبت به ابطال‌پذیری گزاره‌های علمی، اما اتخاذ صرف این رویکرد کتاب را از توجه به عوامل اجتماعی و اقتصادی که ممکن است در پس ترویج علم وجود داشته باشد و باعث شود نگاه به ترویج علم نگاه ابزاری باشد باز داشته است. ضمیمه‌شدن رویکردهایی که توجه به زمینه‌هایی که علم در آن‌ها تولید و ترویج می‌شود می‌توانست جلوی این کاستی را بگیرد. در مقاله هم‌چنین چند نکته دربارۀ مسائل شکلی کتاب ارائه و سپس چند پیش‌نهاد برای ارتقای محتوای کتاب نیز مطرح شده است که عبارت‌اند از: درنظرگرفتن نقش عامل جنگ در ترویج علم، توجه به نقش تاریخی بازرگانان ایرانی و بیگانگانی که به ایران تردد داشتند، شرح و بسط بیش‌تر فرصت‌ها و چالش‌های شبکه‌های اجتماعی در ترویج علم، و بالاخره توجه به نخستین بانوی ایرانی که مولف یک کتاب درسی در ایران بود. جمع‌بندی مقاله این است که کتاب موردنقد اثر فاخر و ارزش‌مندی است و توجه به نکات ذکرشده می‌تواند باعث ارتقای آن باشد.

a critique on the book science, society, development: papers on public understanding from both historical and philosophical perspectives

public understanding, an important subject that is less discussed in the available literature, is under scrutiny by the book entitled science, society, development: papers on public understanding from both historical and philosophical perspectives. using critical rationalism as its main analytical approach, the book attempts to make a correction on the notion of science in the public perspective and also about the definition and necessity of public understanding. despite the success of critical rationalism in enlightening the public about science, this approach alone is unable in clarifying non-scientific motivations such as political and economic interests behind propagating science. to prevent this shortcoming, we could consider besides critical rationalism some other approaches which help us and the public detect non-scientific motivations and to distinguish between genuine attempts and those who look at science as a means. this paper also discusses some formative points and suggests four complementary additions to the book. overall, the book is an in-depth and valuable attempt on this subject.
