معرفی و نقد کتاب فرایند متمدن‌شدن

نوربرت الیاس، در کتاب فرایند متمدن‌‌شدن، تاریخ شکل‌‌گیری آداب‌ورسوم مدرن را در پژوهشی نوآورانه بررسی کرده و نشان داده است که چگونه از دورۀ رنسانس به بعد انسان غربی به موجودی «متمدن» تبدیل شده است. در سال 1999، جمعی از الیاس‌‌پژوهان خبره ترجمۀ انگلیسیِ فرایند متمدن‌‌شدن را ویرایش کردند و مقدمۀ جدیدی را که الیاس در سال 1968 بر این کتاب نوشته بود، در پی‌‌نوشت آوردند. در سال 1397، چاپ دوم ترجمۀ فارسیِ این کتاب با عنوان درباب فرایند تمدن به ترجمۀ غلامرضا خدیوی در انتشارات جامعه‌‌شناسان منتشر شده است. در این مقاله، ترجمۀ فارسی با ترجمۀ انگلیسیِ کتاب ویرایش مقابله‌‌ای شده است. این‌طورکه به‌نظر می‌‌رسد، به‌‌رغم ادعای مترجم فارسی مبنی‌بر ترجمه از متن اصلیِ آلمانی، منبعِ ترجمه همان ترجمۀ انگلیسیِ کتاب است. مترجم تنها جلد دوم کتاب را ترجمه کرده و مقدمه، جلد اول، پی‌‌نوشت، پیوست، و عمدۀ یادداشت‌‌های نویسنده هنوز به فارسی ترجمه نشده است. مرور اندیشۀ جامعه‌شناختی الیاس و جایگاه او در نظریۀ جامعه‌‌شناختی معاصر هم البته بخشی معتنابه از نوشتۀ ماست. بررسی ترجمه نشان‌‌دهندۀ مشکلات صوری و محتوایی ازجمله نداشتن ‌روندی واحد در ترجمه، واژه‌‌گزینی نامانوس و دیریاب، و رعایت‌نکردن قواعد نگارشی و ویرایشی است.

The Introduction and Critical Analysis ofUber den Prozess der Zivilisation

The celebrated German sociologist, Norbert Elias, in his magnum opus, Uber den Prozess der Zivilisation, through a longterm socialhistorical analysis, recasts the processual configurations of manners since Renaissance, searching how the Europeans came to be known ’civilized.’ A group of renowned scholars of Elias, then his editors of the English translation, edited the Edmund Jephcott’s fine translation in 1999, The Civilizing Process, and put the long introduction written by Elias thirty years after the first publication, in 1968, at the end of the edited version, as a Postscript. The Persian translation of The Civilizing Process appeared in 2018 by Qolam Reza Khadivi. We seek to do a contrastive analysis based on the Persian translation of the English version, whilst Khadivi claims he has translated from the original German text. The available Persian translation is incomplete since the preface, first volume, postscript, appendix, and most of the author’s notes have not been translated yet. As our scrutiny shows, the Persian translation of The Civilizing Process has so many formal problems, it lacks consistency and does not pursue a good norm of wordage, in addition to numerous written and editorial mistakes.
