نقدی بر ترجمۀ کتاب سفال اسلامی

در میان هنرهای دوران اسلامی سفال‌گری یکی از متنوع‌ترین و جذاب‌ترین هنرها به‌شمار می‌آید و همواره موردتوجه باستان‌شناسان و پژوهش‌گران هنر اسلامی قرار داشته است. ازهمین‌رو، کتاب‌های تخصصی و کاتالوگ‌های زیادی به زبان‌های مختلف دربارۀ این هنر و معرفی انواع و شیوه‌های آن به چاپ رسیده است که بسیاری از آن‌ها براساس آثار مجموعه‌های خصوصی یا موزه‌ها تهیه و تنظیم شده‌اند. در نوشتار پیش‌رو ترجمۀ یکی از این کتاب‌ها بررسی و نقد می‌شود که درواقع یک جلد از مجموعه‌ای چندجلدی است که به معرفی آثار هنری اسلامی موجود در مجموعۀ ناصر خلیلی اختصاص یافته است. بررسی دقیقِ ترجمۀ کتاب، که با عنوان سفال اسلامی به چاپ رسیده است، نشان می‌دهد که این اثر باوجود کیفیت ظاهری درخور توجهِ چاپ و روانی نسبی متن در برخی بخش‌ها، در زمینۀ ترجمه و ویرایش کاستی‌ها و ضعف‌هایی جدی دارد. ازجمله مهم‌ترینِ این ضعف‌ها می‌توان به اشکال‌های جدی و پرتعداد در ضبط اسامی خاص، به‌ویژه نام‌های جغرافیایی و محوطه‌های باستانی، ناآشنایی مترجم با اصطلاحات و واژگان تخصصی سفال و هنر اسلامی، اشتباه‌ها و ابهام‌ها در ترجمه، و درنهایت، توضیح‌های جهت‌دار و پراشتباه ویراستار اشاره کرد.

A Critical Review of Islamic Potteries

Among the arts of the Islamic era, pottery is one of the most diverse and attractive arts, which has always been considered by archaeologists and Islamic art researchers. Therefore, many specialized books and catalogs have been published in various languages about this art and its introduction in a variety of ways, many of which have been compiled based on the works of a private collection or museum. The present paper seeks to review the translation of one of these books, which is actually a volume of a multivolume collection dedicated to the introduction of Islamic artworks in Nasser Khalili collection. A careful review of the translation of the mentioned book, which has been published under the title of &Islamic Pottery&, indicates that this work, despite its remarkable print quality and the fluency of the text in some parts, has some serious deficiencies and weaknesses in its translation and edition. From among the most significant weaknesses, serious and numerous problems in recording proper nouns, especially the geographical names and the names of ancient sites, the translator’s unfamiliarity with the technical terms and vocabulary of Islamic pottery and art, errors and ambiguities in translation, and ultimately the editor’s biased and erroneous explanations can be mentioned.
