نقد کتاب مشاهداتی از ارمنستان باستانی و روابط اشکانیان و رومیان

این مقاله کتاب مشاهداتی از ارمنستان باستانی و روابط اشکانیان و رومیان (ترجمۀ پایان‌‌نامه‌ ارشد perceptions of classical armenia: romanoparthian relations, 70 bcad 220) را با تطبیق اصل انگلیسی اثر و ترجمه‌ فارسی آن نقد و بررسی کرده است. نویسنده با بررسی اقدامات نظامی امپراتوران دوره‌های مختلف روم از 70پ‌م200م تلاش کرده با مقایسه‌ نظریات مختلف درباره‌ سیاست خارجی رومیان در مناطق شرقی و مناقشات سیاسی و خصوصاً نظامی بین رومیان و اشکانیان طی این دوره‌ها تصویر ارائه‌شده‌ رومیان از اشکانیان را‌‌ بازشناسی کند و از این ره‌گذر انگیزه‌‌های رومیان از نمایاندن اشکانیان درجایگاه دشمن شرقی روم را بررسی کند. نویسنده موضوع بسیار مهمی را انتخاب کرده، اما اثری درجه‌یک حاصل نشده است. در این زمینه آثار مهم و شاخصی در مغرب‌‌زمین منتشر شده که این اثر در قیاس با آن‌ها کاستی‌‌های فراوانی دارد و ترجمه‌ آن نیز چنان ضعف‌‌ مشهودی دارد که بهتر بود هم کتاب مناسب‌تری برای ترجمه انتخاب می‌شد و هم مترجمان آن دقت‌نظر بیش‌تری صرف می‌کردند.

A Review of Perceptions of Classical Armenia: Romano-Parthian Relations

The book of Perceptions of Classical Armenia: RomanoParthian Relations, 70 BCAD 220 is a Persian translation of a master thesis at Louisiana State University: Perceptions of Classical Armenia: RomanoParthian Relations, 70 BCAD 22. This research has mainly focused on the military actions of the Roman emperors from 70 BC to 200 AD. By comparing the various views on the foreign policy of the Romans in the Eastern regions, the political controversy, and especially the conflict between the Romans and the Parthians during these periods, it was aimed to show the image of the Parthians that Romans had in their mind. This article is a review of the research. A comparative study is conducted between the original English version of the book and its Persian translation to examine the accuracy of the content of the work and the translation. Having in mind that there are several wellknown works on this subject that have been published in the West. Translating a mediocre work by a translator with a poor command of English language does not seem beneficial. Therefore, it would be more suitable to select another book and/or translator for this subject.
