نقد و بررسی کتاب معماری مساجد اولیۀ ایران از آغاز تا دورۀ حکومت سلجوقیان

درباب معماری مساجد صدر اسلام ایران تحقیقات بی‌شماری انجام شده است. در بیش‌تر این پژوهش‌ها، مساجد به‌صورت تک‌نگاری موردمطالعه قرار گرفته‌اند. در این بین، توجه محققان به ساختار فیزیکی و تحولات تاریخی سازه و تزئینات معطوف بوده است. این قالب کلیشه‌ای و تکراری در این کتاب، که خانم باربارا فینستر نوشته است، نیز رعایت شده است. هم‌چنین، در این کتاب به تحولات معماری مساجد اولیه ایران به‌تفصیل پرداخته شده است. نقد این کتاب از دو منظر ساختار شکلی و محتوایی ارزیابی شده است. این کتاب به‌مثابه یکی از کتاب‌های تحلیلی معماری صدر اسلام قابل‌تامل است و می‌توان براساس استدلال‌های نویسنده، دریچه‌ای نو به معماری مذهبی ایران در قرون اولیه اسلامی باز کرد. درکنار نقاط قوت این اثر فاخر، نقاط ضعفی نیز دیده می‌شود که به‌طور کلی متوجه بخش تالیف و ترجمه کتاب است. انتخاب معادل‌های گنگ برای واژگان تخصصی و نیز برخی ایرادات محتوایی از مهم‌ترین موارد قابل‌ملاحظه به‌شمار می‌آیند.

Iranian Mosque from Early Islamic Period to Seljuq Dynasty

Many studies have been undertaken with respect to the architecture of Islamic mosques in Iran. In most of these studies, mosques have been investigated monographically, so researchers have paid close attention to the physical structure, historical changes, and ornaments. In this book, Barbara Finster has taken into account such a repetitive format. Besides, this book has thoroughly focused on the evolution of early Islamic mosques in Iran. The present review has taken both form and content into account for further evaluation. This book can be regarded as one of the analytic and interpretive books which can open new horizons to Islamic architecture in the early Islamic centuries based on the writer’s postulations. Although this outstanding work has some merits, it is not without demerits particularly with respect to its translation.  The selection of inappropriate equivalents for the technical words and some content inaccuracies are some of the major pitfalls of the book.
