Comparison of listening to the Quran Arabic recitation and Arabic recitation along with Persian translation on decreasing patients’ anxiety and vital signs stability before anesthesia induction

Aims: most of the people, who are transfer to the operating room for surgery are stressed that can cause some adverse physical and mental complications. the ways of reducing this anxiety have always been questioned and studied. this study was conducted aiming at investigating the non- pharmaceutical methods such as listening to the holy quran recitation as a useful and effective procedure to decrease the anxiety. methods: this experimental study was done in 2009 on 180 patients referred to imam khomeini hospital in jiroft who were candidate for abdomen and limbs surgery with anesthesia class of asai. samples were randomly divided into three 60-patient groups. group 1 was treated with the quran lilt by itself, and group 2 with the quran lilt accompanied with the persian meanings and group 3 as the control group. data collection tools were the questionnaire for recording personal data, the standard trail anxiety inventory and the checklist for registering vital signs. data was analyzed using spss16 software with one-way annova and man-whitney u test. results: the results showed that the degree of anxiety or stress among the three groups had significant statistical difference after interventions (p=0.035; f=3.755). moreover, the level of anxiety between the group 2 and 3 had a significant difference (p=0.019) and didn’t have a significant difference between the group 1 and 3 (p=0.513). conclusion: the lilt of quran accompanied by persian meanings can be more effective in reducing anxiety compared to the lilt of quran by itself. this method can be used as an effective non-pharmaceutical method for reducing patients' anxiety before any surgery.
