the authors first examine the theological implications of the holocaust and the intellectual efforts of prominent thinkers such as buber, heschel, berkovits, and kaplan in the face of this challenge. these thinkings, from “eclipse of god” and “divine pathos” to reinterpretation of “hester panim” and “the meaning of history,” reveals thedepth of the crisis. reflections of the holocaust go beyond theology and, as acivilizational rupture, have had profound consequences in the fields of politics, cultureand art, society, education, and media. among the political consequences are the crisisof legitimacy of the modern state, preparing the context for zionism, and thecontroversial and instrumental use of the accusation of anti-semitism in contemporarypolitical discourses. the challenge of its representation in culture and art, the collapse oftrust and social solidarity, the politicization of knowledge in educational institutions,and the dual role of the media in shaping collective memory are other consequences.the authors have shown through an interdisciplinary analysis that a deep understandingof the holocaust and its consequences requires a perspective that emphases on theinterconnected and often neglected dimensions of this event and its widespread andcontemporary reflections in the political, cultural, and social spheres.
