FOREWORD

The journal of the iranian statistical society (jirss) encourages high-quality research papers in all branches of probability and statistics. however, the emphasis is on topics of high current interest. as a part of this emphasis, it is our policy to publish special issues of jirss which focus on cutting-edge research in selected areas undergoing rapid development. i am pleased that professor jean-yves dauxois of the university of toulouse, france, accepted my invitation to be the guest editor of this special issue on recurrent events.
