|
Hazard analysis is the prominent stage in performance-based earthquakeengineering, and proper intensity measure selection is its signicant phase. despitediversity in recently proposed intensity measures, there are still signicant variations inthe magnitude of structural responses used to assess performance, especially according tothe records with pulse-like characteristics. in this study, several intensity measures fortwo groups of records, far-eld and near-eld, were evaluated in six scaling levels. inaddition, a new scalar intensity measure, accounting for pulse-like characteristics of near-eld records, have been generated based on spectral velocity at rst-mode period of astructure and maximum amount of velocity. utilized structural models are steel momentframes with dierent heights accounting for the eects of wave propagation. it is discoveredthat this new velocity-based intensity measure is the most convenient im factor, especiallyfor the stories under pulse propagation associated with near-eld records, considering botheciency and suciency aspects. furthermore, it is found that utilizing nonlinear spectralvalues does not signicantly amplify assessment precision in the moderate range of intensitymeasures, and considering their unavoidably complicating and time consuming requiredanalyses; elastic spectral values can be adequately substituted.
