   Machining command generation with a rotational C2 PH quintic curve interpolant for cam profile manufacturing

چکیده    This paper presents a new method to generate the cam position commandsrequired for manufacturing a cam prole by an open-architecture cnc machine. at rst,the junction points of several connected ph quintic curves, as cam segments, are obtainedbased on the supposed desired follower motion. consequently, the desired cam curve isrepresented via a multi-segment c2 ph quintic curve. after that, a new interpolationalgorithm is proposed to generate the position commands required for machining of thecam. the designed cam-follower mechanism is performed for several case studies to evaluatethe e ectiveness of the employed curve representation and the proposed interpolationalgorithm. the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed interpolation algorithmis capable of providing a smooth transition for all regions of the follower motion, andthe obtained displacement, velocity, acceleration and jerk proles match the correspondingdesired proles closely. therefore, the newly advised interpolation algorithm with a uniformsegmentation scheme is not only feasible for generating cam position commands, but alsoyields a satisfactory performance for the follower motion. also, the non-uniform rotationalsegmentation of the cam curve causes the amount of kinematic characteristics of the followermotion to be signicantly increased, compared to the corresponding desired proles.
