چکیده

The equalizing wake ow into the propeller behind the ship is importantfrom the hydrodynamic performance viewpoint. in this study, numerical simulations of thedtmb4119 propeller with two symmetric and asymmetric duct types behind the krisocontainer ship (kcs) are performed using computational fluid dynamics (cfd). in orderto improve the wake equaling ow, a combined duct and stators' configurations are installedbefore the propeller in the stern of the ship and its hydrodynamic performance is studiedusing cfd. a duct with the naca4415 section and two types of stator configurations areselected. the star-ccm+ software using the finite volume discretization method wasused to solve the governing equations of the uid ow. for simulating the turbulence model, the standard k-! model was used and the solution method was validated in comparisonwith the available experimental data. output parameters including thrust coecientand torque coeffcient in the open-water condition and behind the ship are presentedand discussed. the propeller performance after mounting the asymmetric and symmetricducts are improved by 4.8% and 6.57%, respectively. therefore, it is concluded that thesymmetric duct is more affected by the propeller performance and, hence, fuel consumptionis reduced considerably.
