Abstract
suffering is one of the most fundamental human experiences and among the central theological and existential questions throughout human history. in the modern age -when human beings confront a crisis of meaning, ontological anxieties, loneliness, alienation, and the erosion of the sacred- a renewed return to sacred texts for rethinking suffering and discovering a deeply rooted hope has become a pressing necessity. focusing on two pivotal figures in the bible, job and christ, this article explores the theology of suffering and hope within revelatory texts and demonstrates how these narratives can open meaning-giving and illuminating horizons for the suffering contemporary human being.in the story of job, we encounter a person who, faced with undeserved suffering and the silence of god, collapses and yet rises again, arriving at a kind of immediate, existential faith. in christ, we encounter the climax of sacred suffering: a cry from the depths of existential darkness that reaches its peak on the cross and, in the resurrection, gives birth to a transcendent hope. although these two narratives are situated within their own specific historical and theological contexts, they present shared structures for confronting suffering: standing before the silence of god, passing through despair, reconstructing the relationship with the transcendent, and the emergence of a new hope from within darkness.from an existential philosophical perspective, suffering is not a marginal phenomenon but the very core of the human existential experience; when confronted with honesty, faith, and hope, it can become an opportunity for inner transformation and the recovery of meaning. the biblical narratives offer precisely such a model: not the denial of suffering, nor its simplification, but an invitation to dwell within it, to live with it, and ultimately to pass through it in a meaningful way. by integrating biblical textual interpretation with existential philosophical analysis, this article seeks to show that the theology of suffering and hope in the revelatory tradition can open a path for responding to the crisis of suffering in contemporary humanity a humanity that, more than ever, seeks a meaning for living in the midst of pain.
