چکیده    Background: fentanyl and its derivates decrease heart rate and can mildly decrease blood pressure, almost in all cases, but there are some differences between various drugs in this group. methods: in a controlled non-randomized clinical trial. seventy-nine patients who need to general anesthesia due to gastrointestinal tract malignancies, evaluated hemodynamically before and immediately after induction and during anesthesia. fifty cases had received infusion of remifentanyl (0.15 μg/kg/min) for analgesia, during general anesthesia. the other group received infusion of sufentanyl (0.5 μg/kg/min) for analgesia. in both groups induction of anesthesia was made by bolus administration of thiopental (5 mg/kg) and cisatracuruim (0.1 mg/kg) and the maintenance of anesthesia was made by isoflurane (1.2 mac) and supplementation doses of cisatracuruim (0.03 mg/kg). results: both remifentanyl (p<0.001) and sufentanyl (p<0.001) reduced sbp similarly immediately after induction of anesthesia, but remifentanyl produced more hemodynamic stability during the maintenance of anesthesia. the reduction in sbp (p<0.029) and heart rate (p<0.015) was more prominent in the maintenance period of anesthesia, in sufentanyl group. conclusion: remifentanyl produces more hemodynamic stability rather than sufentanyl, when they are used as analgesics in general anesthesia, in gastrointestinal tract surgeries
