Fluent Aphasia From Herpes Simplex Encephalitis

The present case report introducesa patient with fluent aphasia ,anterograde amnesia and anosmia dueto herpes simplex encephalitis after herfirst delivery. the left medial temporallobe was one of the main areas involved. on aphasia testing she showed severeanomia on both confrontation and freerecall, agraphia , alexia , repetition disorderand some auditory comprehensionimpairments.therapy was focused on the followingissues : phonological output lexicon ,using graphemes as a source ofreestablishing phonological representation; describing pictures to reinforcefree recall and self - cuing word retrievalstrategies ; sequencing the events forlanguage memory reinforcement , etc.results showed improvement in confrontationalnaming , free recall , correctresponses without priming , writing ondictation , spontaneous writing and readingcomprehension .
