Impact of solid waste dump of Beni-Mellal City on sediments and soil at Sabeq River [Effet de la Décharge publique de la ville de Béni-Mellal sur les Sédiments et les Sols au niveau d'Oued Sabeq]

In order to assess polluted site in benimellal city,a detailing study on heavy metal contamination was conducted on sediments and soils along oued sabeq located near the public city dump. physico-chemical analyses (ph,ec,caco3,organic matter,magnetic susceptibility and heavy metal content) were performed on 39 samples taken along the river and in the city dump. the heavymetal content was determined by icp-oesspectrometer. the results show a significant pollutant load carried by leachate from the landfill. this pollution varies along the river with a fluctuating increase of heavy metals in the discharge and downstream. the quantitative development of these heavy metals and the calculation of the pollution load index (pli) shows that the cd,cu and cr are the most remarkable pollutants in our study area [cd (pli = 6.72) cu (pli = 1.84),cr (pli = 1.21). these metallic elements are more concentrated in soils than in the sediments. according to their vertical variation,importantaccumulation isshows in the surface layer (0-40 cm). a statistical treatment (pca) shows a positive correlation between cd,cu,pb,as and organic matter content (om) which can lead us to suppose that these items tend to be adsorbed and controlled by the organic substances and clay fraction.
