چکیده    Water pollution is a major problem of the environment. the desire to solve this general problem is marked both by a sense of time and type of pollutants (heavy metals, hydrocarbon dye.). retention of heavy metals is carried out in our study by adsorption on activated carbon and clay from deposit roussel to maghnia (western algeria). the adsorbent properties of the two materials are studied from adsorption isotherms for metallic lead and cadmium ions in aqueous solution at various temperatures in using the atomic absorption spectrometry._various parameters are set and optimized: ph,temperature, initial concentration of adsorbate and adsorbent mass. the tests determine the type of adsorption, which is in agreement with the freundlich model. besides determining the isosteric adsorption heat confirms an exothermic physical adsorption of the lead member on activated carbon and sodium montmorillonite,an adsorption mechanism of pb2+ ion is provided. this study aims to contribute to clean up the waters.
