Application of Locally Sourced Plants as Natural Coagulants For Dye Removal from Wastewater: A Review

Locally sourced plants are indigenous plants with optimum health condition, better environmental tolerance and these plants are cost effective. a total of 8 plants and the effects of specific plant part in the removal of dye from effluent are compiled in this review. removal of dye is an important in step in the treatment of effluent prior to discharge in order to maintain a safe environment. coagulation using commercial coagulants is the most widely applied technique in the treatment. however, conventional coagulants are ph sensitive and they generate higher sludge volume. natural coagulants are more effective in treating effluent as they do not alter the ph and produce low sludge volume that can be used as eco-products. thus natural coagulants are economical and eco-friendly. the present review provides a new insight into the potential of locally sourced plants as alternatives to chemical coagulants in effluent treatment processes.
