Faecal pollution in the bay of the Ebrié lagoon (Banco,Cocody and M'Badon) in Abidjan,Côte d'Ivoire [Etat de la pollution fécale dans les baies de la lagune Ebrié (Banco,Cocody et M'Badon) à Abidjan,Côte d'Ivoire]

Data analysis from the national observation network (rno) of the water quality into the ivorian anti-pollution center (ciapol) bearing about the indicator bacteria of faecal pollution of lagoon bays in côte d'ivoire helped to understand the pollution degree of banco,m'badon and cocody bays. these bays were highly polluted by faecal coliforms (fc.),faecal streptococci (fs.) and clostridium perfringens (c. perfringens). overall,the levels of these pathogens in these berries exceeded the threshold of 1,000 cfu/100 ml as indicated by who on water intended for bathing activities. the level of faecal pollution varied from one bay to another depending on the climatic season,temperature,ph,dissolved oxygen and salinity of the water and the type of bacteria considered. in the three bays,concentrations of faecal c. and s. were higher than those of c. perfringens. overall,the bay of cocody was the most polluted while that of m'badon was the least polluted. the ph and salinity in bays were influenced by tides and by climatic seasons. as for dissolved oxygen,it was influenced by the introduction of runoff and septic tank effluent in bays. a significant correlation existed between the proliferation of faecal bacteria studied with temperature,salinity,ph and dissolved oxygen.
