Monitoring of water physico-chemical quality of the Senegal River: the case of capture of Beni Nadji supplying drinking water of the Wilaya of Nouakchott [Suivi de la qualité physicochimique de l'eau du fleuve Sénégal: Cas du captage du Beni Nadji alimentant en eau potable les wilayas de Nouakchott]

This present study is concerned with the effects of pollution on the physical- chemical qualities of water from the river senegal. water from this river is used for both domestic and agricultural purposes; so it is very important to monitor its level of pollution. in this river valley,urban,industrial and agricultural activities intensify each year. this in turn has a direct impact on the amount of pollutants affecting the aquatic environment as well as the flora and fauna. this study was conducted at the water intake at aftout es sahli project in keur macen. it was done in order to qualitatively and quantitatively assesses the water quality in the river. monthly monitoring of the water quality was carried out over a period of 9 months (january - september 2013). the objective of this work is to identify and quantify the quality of water in the river senegal. this study further aims to make a physic-chemical characterization in order to identify several parameters which comes into play when determining the quality of water. these include temperature,ph,conductivity,turbidity,total hardness,alkalinity,nitrates,nitrites,sulfates,and chlorides... etc. the results showed that the concentration of most of the physic - chemical parameters met general standards. this related to a variation of turbidity of 21.3 ntu in may,to 330 ntu in august. additionally,the tss value was at a maximum during the month of august,with a value of 270 mg.l-1. minimum oxidability was 0.9 mg.l-1 in the month of january and at a minimum of 3.4 mg.l-1 in the month of august.
