Biochemical and Histopathology study of the toxicity of metal dust emitted by the Annaba steel complex in Northeastern Algeria in the snail Helix aspersa [Etude biochimique et histopathologique de la toxicité des poussières métalliques du complexe sidérurgique d'Annaba (Nord- Est Algérien) chez Helix aspersa]

The aim of the study is to examine the impact of metal dust collected at the el-hadjar (algeria) steel complex on the snail helix aspersa,a gastropod that considered as a bioindicator and bioaccumulator of environmental pollution. biochemical study of metal dust toxicity showed a significant increase in proteins with a significant reduction in the carbohydrates and lipids in the two studied tissues (hepatopancreas and kidney). histopathological analyzes showed very significant deteriorations in this tissues. indded,the renal and hepato pancreatic epithelium showed inflammatory and lymphoplasmocytic infiltrates even at low concentrations of metallic dust. these results,would demonstrate a first biological response to environmental xenobiotics.
